Plextor USA

I am having the same problem as you and cannot figure it out. I have a evga classified mother board and i7 920 Vista x64 home also fresh install. All sata connections so if any one knows how to fix this let me know. I agree its very fustrating. When I use it as a destination drive it keeps rejecting the DVDs and saying they are the wrong format and they are DVD - R May just get a different drive.

I have a similar configuration: all newly installed. BIOS and Dev Manager had no problems, just Explorer. Explorer also won't recognize an older Goldstar CD drive and kept wanting drivers for both. PlexUtilities still worked.

In another post, "Need px-880sa driver for vista", I found a work-around:
Remove PlexRadar.exe from the startup with msconfig. It seemed to be interfering with Vista properly registering the drive. Explorer still doesn't recognize it as DVD, but at least it works now.

• Asus P6T with Intel X58/ ICH10R chipset
• Intel i7 920, 6 GB RAM
• SATA hard drive in RAID mode
• Win Vista 64bit Home Premium

Definitely seems a Windows problem...

Ok I do not want to appear stupid but I am not a computer savy person. how do you Remove PlexRadar in msconfig? I do think its the problem because I saw popups when I tried to uninstall it. Why can't they just come out with a fix!

Are you also running vista x64?

To remove PlexRadar Startup:
Start>Run>Type msconfig(Vista has start search bar)
Go to STARTUP Tab
Uncheck PlexUtilities (Make sure its PlexRadar.exe under command line)
Restart

Although this didn't work for me.. still keeps giving me an error saying no Plextor drives detected. I will also point out that my drive will burn CDRW/DVD & read dvd's just fine, Just a no go for PlexUtil.

Well, I still get the locate driver pop-up whenever I log on, but cancelling it doesn't seem to stop me from using the drive as needed... as Donnascamera says: Why can't they just come out with a fix!!!

Well it stopped rejecting the DVD's. The problem was the burning software I was using and I fixed that. PlexUtilities still will not let me install no matter what I do. I did uncheck it in the msconfig and it came back somehow and gave me the same error. Then I could not uninstall it. I had to do system restore and that was all I am going to try for now. It just will not install and detect the drive. I will try again after I install Windows 7 64 bit but I am not hopefull. I am not impressed
