By pump I mean a small electrical charge is used to reset the nand. This is an internal command, built into all drives.

It doesn't use one's or zero's to clear the nand so better imho.

The best way to do this is with a parted magic iso. Boot to it and follow the prompts...

then will the drive need to be re partitioned and reformatted with NTSF or will just all the data be wiped after SE and windows 7 can just be straight installed?

Thanks for the link Doorules, I think I understand now. So will sending the drive a secure erase command leave it in the same state as writing all zeros to it, just better because there is less wear on the drive?

Using the SE command will leave the drive just like you just took it out of the box new.

if I never partitioned the drive since I got it is it's default alignment for this drive 4096 or the default for a normal drive of 1024? and if 1024 then should I clear the drive with SE and then repartition in 4096? as I read 4096 is better? (Unless it already has that and is there anyway to check what it's alignment is at now?)
