I have a Plextor PX-800A but I can't seem to find any updated firmware for it. I bought some Philips DL discs and they don't work with the drive as I get an "invalid media" error when trying to write to them. I hoped to update the firmware and make the drive compatible with the media.
I don't think that there was ever any firmware for th PX-800A, unless you want to somehow force the Optiarc firmware. But even then, I don't think there will be much of a difference. The recommended dual layered media for this particular model is Mitsubishi/Verbatim. I wouldn't suggest trying to make the Phillips media work. Just go to Microscenter and get some Verbatims instead.
Aloha Karma,I have the 800A and was told that it is really a NEC product and that's why Plextor has nothing on their wedsite about it. I think that is not right to sell a product and not support it. Aloha, Wildog
I paid alot of money for this thing and its junk with no support! Ive tried to burn many types of DL disc with no luck.
This is the same what i am thinking about this support.
It's my 2th burner of Plextor and it piss me on, when I see this politic.
I have 3 LG burner with no problems all about that and if You by
one You pay only 30% of the price of plextor.
Their products work fine.
